Repeated strong nose bleeds?

I just got back from the ER again with a bad nose bleed. Around 20 years ago I went to this ER, the doctor who worked with me, tried the nose plug thing, but it didn't work, so he took a long swab, dipped it in some kinda solution, and rubbed it in my nose. The nosebleed stopped immediately and I haven't had a nosebleed since in the left side. A couple of yrs ago I had a nosebleed on the right side, went to a nearby ER, and they burned it. It stopped but today I had another bad nosebleed, the same side. They didn't know what to do. Plugged it and made it worse. I went to another ER and they finally got it stopped. Someone told me the doctor from 20 years ago cauterized it. I'm not sure he did now because I was told today they have to find the vein bleeding to do that. I'm sure I'll be back in the ER again eventually unless I can figure out what that first doctor used.

Taking any anticoagulants? Aspirin, Motrin, Advil? Any history of nasal surgery. Are you a nose picker? Allergies? Most likely it was cauterized with silver nitrate of a chromium bead 20+ years ago. Some nosebleed cab controlled with cautery, some with various types of packing and sponges, some absorbable and some non-absorbable. Surgery and/or embolization indicated if more conservative measures non- effective. Best to make appt. with ENT- nasal surgeon in your area for exam and advice. No smoking, alcohol, noseblowing, use mask if exposed to airborne particulate matter.
