Strep throat vs Covid or both?

I developed a mildly sore throat on Thursday and took a RAT test straight away. The result was negative. Over the last few days, my sore throat has become increasingly more severe and painful. I can barely swallow or talk and the inside of my throat is inflamed and red. This was accompanied by a runny nose. I took another RAT test to make sure I didn’t have Covid, but the test was faulty. The test line was very strong but the control line was barely visible. It’s a long weekend here and the doctors and chemists are shut until Tuesday. I am wondering if this could be strep throat even though I removed my tonsils a few years ago. Is it possible to have strep throat and Covid at the same time?

Sore throat is one of the many possible symptoms of COVID infection, but Strep throat is also a possibility. You should get a PCR test for COVID and a throat swab for Strep. You may have to wait for hours at you local ER, but do it anyway.
Hello! To answer your question, you can still get strep throat with Covid. You can also get strep throat without tonsils as well. Pharyngitis is when there is inflammation of the throat which can be uncomfortable. One of the most common organisms which is streptococcus, hence, strep throat. This is contagious by sharing drinking, kissing, coughing, etc. Strep throat requires treatment whereas Covid can typically be resolved on its own. Please seek medical attention for your condition. Hope you feel better.
If you have tonsil remnants, you can get a strep infection. More likely you have nasopharyngitis. or a viral infection caused by a virus other than COVID. There must be a clinic or urgent care facility in your area. Viral laryngitis is much more common than bacterial laryngitis.
