Plastic Surgeon Questions Botox

What does Botox treatment include?

I have been recommending my sister botox treatment for her sagging skin. However, I really don't know what it involves myself (so I really can't talk about it as much as I am). What does botox treatment usually include?

Hello, Botox is a neurotoxin that temporarily paralyzes facial muscles, therefore decreasing wrinkles. It does nothing for facial sagging, and other procedures such as injectable fillers, fat transfers, Morpheus face toning, Facetite or a facelift might be necessary. Great question. Botox (or Dysport or Xeomine) is a product that weakens the strength of muscles. So we can use it to treat what we call kinetic wrinkles or wrinkles that are caused by muscles that move. A great example is the muscles that move your forehead and eyebrows. These can cause wrinkles between your eyebrows (labella) or the wrinkles of the forehead. When we use Botox in this area, it can decrease the appearance of aging. In your sister's case, if she does have sagging skin she may need either a filler or surgery to remove excessive skin. I recommend seeing a plastic surgeon to better evaluate what her needs are.
Botox reduces skin wrinkles produced by muscles
Hi and thank you for your question. You state in your question that you'd like to learn more about Botox and what a treatment entails.

Botox is a naturally occurring protein that, when used in small amounts, paralyzes the muscles of the face, leading to a reduction in wrinkles. It is safe and effective when used in the upper face muscles, the ones that lead to horizontal forehead lines, frown lines, and crow's feet wrinkles around the eye. There are several other uses for it as well, but these are the standard treatment areas.
Hello, we can use it for the treatment of forehead, wrinkles around eyes, sad face....
Regarding Botox: this is not a treatment for saggy skin. Botox helps to correct fine lines due to facial expressions such as frowning, smile lines, crows feet around the eyes, and such superficial changes. Saggy skin is due to loss of collagen, which gets depleted as we age. There are several different options to correct this by skin tightening or volumizing.

Thank you for your question.

Botox is most commonly done for dynamic wrinkles( skin lines that happen from muscle movement or expressions) in the upper third of the face. Such as Forehead creases, "Angry 11" lines between the brows, crows feet lines on the sides of the eyes and nasal crunch lines that go across the top of the nose, bunny lines that are on the sides of the nose or creases that are under the eyes.
It is NOT for sagging skin or skin laxity in the lower third of the face. Skin tightening procedures work best for that whether they are noninvasive (Pelleve' or Thermage), Minimally invasive (J Plasma) or invasive such as Lifts to address gravitational aging.
I suggest ensuring that you see an experienced injection specialist (board certified plastic surgeon) for a consultation on your sister's skin. Seeing it in person can help the surgeon create a good treatment plan detailing injectables that can help her situation. Botox can help reduce fine lines and wrinkles.
Botox and its equivalents relax overactive muscles. In doing so, it improves wrinkles produced by such activity, very safely and effectively. However, it does NOT remove or improve loose skin. There are other treatments available for those problems.
Botox does not treat sagging chin, it only paralyzes muscles to help wrinkles.
Botox is usually used to treat wrinkles especially in the upper face. The Botox is injected specifically into certain muscles that control wrinkle formation. The Botox will usually last from 4-6 months. It doesn’t help sagging skin.
