Respiratory Therapist Questions Snoring

What is a healthy treatment for snoring?

My husband snores a lot which is disturbing my sleep. I don't think it's sleep apnea because his breathing is uninterrupted. During the day, he is kind of nasaly but has been to many doctors and they don't see a problem with his sinuses or septum. I am not sure where to turn. How can we treat his snoring from the root cause?

I would suggest the most I expensive test first, an overnight pulse ox or at least have HRN (www.homerehabnetwork.com) send him a sleep study kit to your home and they will find everything out from his own home.
You might have your husband start using an extra pillow or two to help with elevating his head. Is your husband over weight? Has he gone to a Pulmonologist to assist in this issue? You should try and get a referral from your Dr., share your concerns. The Dr. may suggest your husband so to a sleep center to see if he in fact, is suffering with sleep apnea. Remember, most of the time snoring is attributed to the glottis being blocked or constricted. CPAP/BiPAP therapy has been proven successful and beneficial in the treatment of such a diagnosis.
I would recommend seeing an ENT doctor. If sleep apnea is ruled out, ENT should be your next stop.
Is your husband obese? Have him use two pillows to elevate his head. Even though he does not have sleep apnea he may still benefit using CPAP or BiPAP machine at night since he may have obstruction. Avoid late dinners and alcohol. I hope this helps.
