What medications help with allergic rhinitis?

I have allergic rhinitis. What medications help with allergic rhinitis?

For those who have allergic rhinitis, the best are the 2nd generation antihistamines which are non-drowsy. Most effective would be loratadine (Claritin), fexofenadine (Allegra), and Zyrtec (Cetirizine). These are tablets that can be taken usually once daily to prevent nasal discharge. Some nasal sprays which relieve everyday congestion can be bought over the counter as well such as Flonase or Rhinocort.
This question is out of the scope of my practice, but you may want to try OTC options like Flonase nasal spray.

I do not use prescription medications in my practice. Allergic rhinitis can be treated very successfully using a combination of acupuncture and herbs.
Over-the-counter options like cetirizine, loratadine, and fexofenadine can help relieve sneezing, itching, runny nose, and watery eyes.
You can use erythromycin or tetracycline eye ointment to treat rhinitis, they're very effective.
Any of the various prescription and over the counter antihistamines would likely help. Be aware that most of these medications can possibly cause drowsiness.
