You will receive a local anesthetic at the biopsy site where the biopsy needle will be inserted. Sometimes, general anesthesia depending on the type of lesion. Normally they don’t receive sedation. If there is a tumor inside the chest or the belly, they will use general anesthesia. Thank you.
Could be local, but please confer with the physician who has to obtain informed consent prior to the procedure
Conscious sedation is adequate. Sedation with versed, fentanyl and propofol.
Usually sedation but sometimes general anesthesia
Liver biopsy is considered a minor procedure and can be done with local anesthesia.
Normally conscious sedation but it depends on the extent of the liver biopsy.
They will call it sedation but in my opinion it is very brief general anesthesia with an intravenous agent.
