You may have chronic synovitis which is an inflammatory tissue that gets pinched in between the bones when walking and can cause a sharp pain. try a steroid injection to shrink the tissue and if it helps you should consider regenerative medicine options to resolve the condition. midohiofootandankle.com

Ankle pain can be caused by many different reasons. Arthritis, tendinitis, inflammation of the tissue surrounding the joint are just to name a few causes. I would recommend seeing podiatrist and having an x-ray to evaluate your ankle pain. Thank you Jonathan M. Kletz, DPM Texas Foot WorksDallas, Athens and Gun Barrel City Texas214-340-8885
The most likely cause is a sprained ankle. It also could be a result of structural damage to the ankle. If the discomfort does not subside with icing and over the counter anti inflammatories after a week, then make an appointment to see your local podiatrist or orthopedic specialist.

There are many reasons for ankle pain when you walk. A thorough history would provide a specialist with the best options for management. I suggest an evaluation with a foot and ankle specialist.
Many things could be the cause. You may have arthritis in the joint, you may have tendinitis of the structures surrounding the joint, you may have abnormal alignment of the ankle or the subtalar joint (the joint below the ankle). You could even have a nerve issue surrounding the joint. The best thing for you to do is to get an appropriate diagnosis, and that diagnosis will dictate the best treatment for your specific problem
