Will I be on blood pressure tablets for life?

I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. Will I be on blood pressure tablets for life?

1 Answer

That depends, Sometimes working on eating a healthy lower salt or low-salt diet and getting in extra physical activity can lower your blood pressure. If you are overweight or obese losing 10% of your body weight can also lower your blood pressure. If you are generally healthy and multiple relatives have high blood pressure there is a chance you will be on blood pressure medication for the rest of your life. There are many things that can affect blood pressure including stress, diet, exercise, family genetics, and lack of good sleep are just a few. Please follow up with your primary care provider to learn things you can do to reduce the need for blood pressure medication.
