Surgeon Questions Acid reflux

Is acid reflux normal after gall bladder surgery?

I recently underwent a gall bladder surgery for stone removal. Since the surgery I have been experiencing severe acid reflex. Is it normal after such a surgery or should I consult my doctor?

From your question, I am assuming that you had an uncomplicated cholecystectomy. The standard of care currently is that these are done laparoscopically. Acid reflux is not a known complication and you should return to your PMD who may refer to a gastroenterologist for evaluation.
Consult GI, you need an EGD and lose weight. Consult Functional Medicine and Obesity Medicine.
Not normally, have your doctor refer you to a gastroenterologist
If the symptoms are getting worse and not settling to your normal, yes, you should consult your doctor. It can happen after gallbladder surgery, but is not as common. Should be resolved gradually.
You may be experiencing delayed return of bowel function after surgery, which could intensify the symptoms of reflux. You should contact your surgeon.
Yes, it is normal. These symptoms usually disappear a few months after surgery.
No, but occasionally reflux and gallbladder disease are associated. If that were the case then I would have suspected you would have had symptoms before your gallbladder surgery.
It is a normal thing in a lot of cases. But if it is or not you need to talk to your doctor about it.
I suggest you go see a GI doctor. You may need an EGD to see the anatomy of your stomach and esophagus. Likewise, the medications they prescribe should help decrease the acid production of the stomach and hence mitigate the symptoms
No, it is not normal.
Yes, you should discuss with your surgeon.
It is not uncommon to have some bile reflux after surgery. I have also seen patients whose symptoms of acid reflux were masked by the severity of the gallbladder disease. Once their gallbladder was removed and they were no longer having pain, their reflux symptoms were much more noticeable. It could also be a completely separate problem. I would speak with your doctor about it.
Try evening meal @ 6-30 pm. No coffee/tea/juice thereafter. May have tap water, 1-3 glasses. When you go to sleep, elevate the head on 2 pillows. Sleep flat or turn onto left side, not on right side.
In some patients, after GB surgery, there is a lot of bile which goes into duodenum. If it continues, please let your surgeon check you and Rx meds..May want to check that you are not jaundiced.
