Hey there, great question! Anesthesia is definitely a state we don't experience on a daily basis. Generally, a person will become conscious within a few minutes of the surgery being finished. The anesthesiologist communicates with the surgeon to determine how much more time is needed. As soon as the incision is closed you will begin to wake up. You probably won't remember the first few minutes after you wake up, but you should be completely awake and just feeling drowsy by the time you are wheeled out of the OR into recovery. Thanks for the question, be well!
