Pediatrician Questions Allergies

Can allergies cause excessive sneezing?

Everybody in my family has seasonal allergies and dust allergies, except my teenage son. But he sometimes will sneeze excessively, like 8 or 10 times in a row. Can allergies cause excessive sneezing?

YES, allergy can certainly cause excessive sneezing.  An appointment with your pediatrician is in order.
Yes, allergies can definitely induce severe repetitive sneezing. Besides using a non-sedating antihistamines, frequent use of just plain saline nose spray (available at the drug store very inexpensively) can be very helpful. Your mucous membranes get dust or allergy particles on them and then you sneeze to clear the irritants. If you use the saline, you will wash this off right away and decrease the sneezing your body is doing by removing the irritating particles.

It can cause sneezing, eye irritation, extra nasal mucus, which are just a few of the symptoms.
