Internist Questions Celiac Disease

Can coeliac disease lead to breast cancer?

Can coeliac disease play a part in breast cancer or any other cancer? Also can it cause depression, hypertension, osteoporosis arthritis, angina, borderline diabetes emphysema, etc. I have all these illnesses, lost all my teeth as they just crumbled so I had to have them extracted by an operation. Also I am deaf in both ears, suffer with migraines and I bruise very easily. I have just gone through a mastectomy and radiotherapy also I have glaucoma these are my illnesses can this be due to coeliac disease I was diagnosed with this coeliac disease when I was 49 I am now 64 and apparently I have been like this from birth. So why cant children be tested with coeliac disease at an earlier age so they don't go through having all this in a later life?

No link between celiac and breast cancer. Celiac can rarely cause small bowel cancer. Most celiac is asymptomatic, but can cause diarrhea, a variety of GI symptoms, anemia, abnormal liver tests, but generally not the conditions that you describe. Celiac incidence is <1% of the population so screening the entire population/children is not medically justified. Celiac testing is recommended when there is clinical suspicion for it.
Celiac disease can have complications later on. It is not confirmed to be associated with breast cancer but has been known to be associated with tumors of the lymphatic system.
