If someone prescribes opioids, or long-term benzodiazepines.
Addiction to a medicine can happen to any individual regardless of whether or not they have been diagnosed with PTSD. There are no medications used to treat PTSD to my knowledge that have any addiction potential.
A person is dependent on antidepressants/anti anxiety meds for treatment of PTSD symptoms just like they would be for treatment of any other condition like hypertension or diabetes. If benzodiazepines are given to help with anxiety, then risk of addiction can be present due to development of tolerance to effectiveness of meds.
Yes. Especially to benzodiazepines and tranquilizers. The rest of medications like antidepressants are indicated for long-term use to control symptoms.
That's a hard question to answer because you don't specify which medicine. Opioids and sedatives? Yes, absolutely!! Most other medications, probably not. If you're on antidepressants, you may need them for a long time, but that's not an addiction.
