Could my auditory nerve get damaged at birth?

I currently have unilateral hearing loss in my right ear. I have recently been doing research into effects, but also causes, as it is not known how I lost hearing in this ear. When I was born, the "clamps" were used to aid my mother in giving birth to me, I was wondering, is it possible my auditory nerve was damaged by accident during this? If not, what could be another causality of my hearing loss?

Thanks!

The auditory nerve is deep enough in your brain that it is not susceptible to damage from forceps. Rubella can cause congenital deafness. Any one or more of numerous congenital developmental abnormalities in the ear can produce deafness. Some are treatable. You should see an ENT doc.
No. Your auditory nerve did not get damaged from the clamps. Acute unilateral hearing loss can be due to trauma, infection, middle ear fluid, viral ear disease, vascular event, meningitis. Best to see ENT. MRI mat be indicated. or some treatment

Hmm, yes, that's possible that the use of clamps caused damage depending on how and where they were used, but hard to know for sure. Have you had an MRI and/or CT scan of your head with special attention to the auditory structures on both sides? Those scans can potentially show structural defects, damage, etc that may be responsible for the hearing loss. If not, it could be a pathology on the cellular level, which can't be seen. Is there any history of hearing loss in the family? Genetics play a pretty significant role in hearing loss when its onset is early in life. Truthfully, although a lot is known about the auditory system, it is extremely complex, and we are still scratching the surface. It's not uncommon for the etiology (or cause) of an auditory pathology to be unknown. Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone
Hello,

I have not seen any clinical reports or data about the delivery and risk of hearing loss. There are so many other congenital (or since birth) reasons for hearing loss.
