Cardiologist Questions Fish oil

Does fish oil help with cholesterol?

My doctor said that my triglycerides/cholesterol are high, and he thinks that I should start taking fish oil supplements. Will this really help?

There is some evidence that omega-3 fatty acids can help lower cholesterol; fish oil is particularly rich in this type of fatty acid. That being said, no one has actually studies whether patients who take omega-3s have a lower rate of heart disease; we only assume it will help because we know it lowers the lab values.
