Hematologist (Pediatric) Questions Congenital Heart Defects

My son had a heart surgery as a baby. Will it cause any abnormalities in his blood?

My son was 7 months old when he underwent a heart surgery since he was born with a hole in the heart. As he grows is there any likely impact on his blood production in the body? What should we look out for?

The heart surgery in newborn should not cause anemia in a 7-month-old child. Most likely it's iron deficiency anemia and should be evaluated by his doctor to be treated.
