Physiatrist (Physical Medicine) Questions Nucleoplasty

How does a nucleoplasty work and is it safe?

I'm 43 years old, and I was told by a doctor that I have a herniated disc. He suggested chiropractic treatment, but I heard of nucleoplasty as a treatment as well. What is a nucleoplasty? Is it safe?

A nucleoplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat herniated discs. It involves using a special device to remove a small portion of the disc material, reducing pressure on the nerves and alleviating symptoms. As for safety, nucleoplasty is generally considered safe, but like any medical procedure, it does carry some risks. It's important to discuss the potential benefits and risks with your doctor to determine if nucleoplasty is the right treatment option for you.

You should go see a physical therapist first. They specialize in treating low back pain. If for some reason PT doesn’t help, then look into the nucleoplasty but most people feel better after PT.
