You would need to be evaluated with proper imaging and then have a conversation with your neurosurgeon regarding the specific risks involved in resecting your tumor. Risks can be specific depending on the location of your tumor, so it is important to discuss with your neurosurgeon after obtaining recent imaging,
Hi. Brain surgeries for tumor removal are routine and the advancement in neuronavigation and Intraoperative Neurophysiological monitoring have made them safer. There are risks involved due to the areas involved. Make sure to ask the surgeon to use Intraoperative Neurophysiological monitoring during surgeries (IONM). IONM team monitors the patients all neurological functions during surgeries.
It all depends. Where the tumor is ( part of the brain and is it a solid separate encapsulated tumor or is it embedded into the brain tissue itself ). Those isolated or separated from normal brain tissue are much easier to remove whereas those embedded into the brain are much more complicated and carry more serious risks and side effects. There's always rare but still possible risk such as excessive bleeding, infection and reaction to anesthesia. Talk to your doctor / surgeon and ask as many questions as you can come up with. Good luck. Dr.F. Sent from the all new AOL app for Android
