Sports Medicine Specialist Questions Strength training

How can I increase my strength to play cricket?

I know I have lacking in strength, like I can barely play a good game of softball. Is there anything I could to improve my strength?

Check your labs and hormone levels. Do regular exercise and strength train.
Start in the gym, but start SLOWLY with the weights. A personal trainer session or 2 may be of help.
Weight room. Preferably with trainer
For cricket you’ll need to focus on strengthening you core, shoulder and legs. A full body strengthening program should be done 3 days a week to build strength. You can start with a local personal trainer to make sure form is correct so you don’t end up hurting yourself. If you’d like virtual training you can get great at home programs with www.theprehabguys.com. Good luck!

Usually you need to make sure you are healthy enough to start an exercise program, i.e., no uncontrolled blood pressure, sugar/diabetes, heart, etc. If your primary care provider deems you healthy enough to start an exercise routine, then start with stretching, flexibility program every day, and every other day start a progressive resistive exercise program after adequately stretching and warming up. Increase your activity level about 10% per week. Drink plenty of water to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest/sleep to recover.
Like all sports, playing cricket and softball benefits from upper body, lower body, and core strength. A personal trainer or athletic trainer is the best professional to evaluate where you are strong and where you are weak, and design an individualized exercise regime to correct weaknesses.
Muscles exist in pairs with one muscle performing the opposite function as its pair. The strengthening regime needs to restore the proper balance in these muscle pairs.
Doing so will reduce the risk of injury and improve performance.
