Is a fissure sealant a filling?

I am a 22 year old female. I want to know if a fissure sealant is a filling?

No! A sealant is just a cover over the chewing surface of the tooth. Sometimes the dentist will use a bur to clean out a spot before sealing the tooth.
It’s called a preventative resin restoration. Filling I guess is laymen term
Sealants are thin coatings that are painted on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth (molars) can prevent cavities (tooth decay) for many years. Sealants protect the chewing surfaces from cavities by covering them with a protective shield that blocks out germs and food. But they are not a filling in the traditional since, because the tooth is not prepped. They are bonded to the cervices of the tooth surface!
Hello,

A fissure sealant is usually placed on a healthy tooth to prevent decay on that tooth. It is normally done without removing any tooth structure. A filling, on the other hand, is placed on a tooth that has a cavity. So, dental hand piece with the bur is used to remove the decayed part of the tooth and a restorative material is placed with special adhesives.
Hi,

Somehow is a very thin "filling;" the material of the sealant is different than the resin that we use in a filling material, but if you look at the tooth before the sealant or after, you may see something or feel something on top of it.

Hi,

Hope all is well. Fissures are covering the grooves of the teeth usually are placed when there is no cavity on the tooth. Sealants are basically like protective restorations. Please look at our website at: https://eastwinddentalcare.com/general-dentistry-2/sealants/ and read more about dental sealants.
A fissure sealant is not considered a filling, but rather a preventive measure to fill in the voids on the surface of a tooth to prevent decay.
Hi,

A fissure sealant is placed to prevent a cavity prone area from becoming a cavity. A filling is placed after a cavity is present. They may be similar materials, but not precisely similar.
Hope this answers your question.
No, fit &fissure sealant is not a filling. It is a procedure done to the top surface of your molars, especially with deep grooves, to protect and prevent from having decay. Maintaining good hygiene and flossing daily can help prevent tooth decay.
Absolutely not. Sealants are painless and don't require any anesthesia or drilling. Also, sealants are completely preventive and can't be done in the presence of dental decay.
Hi,

No, a fissure sealant is not the same as a filling. It is used to fill in deep grooves on the biting surface of the tooth so that a cavity does not form.

Hope it helps,

Hi there,

Sealants are not the same as a filling. Sealants are preventative measures that are designed to help avoid tooth decay in the molars of children or adults. They are optional treatments intended to fill in the grooves and crevices found in the molars of most people, providing protective shields for the tooth enamel of each tooth that they cover. The sealant blocks out food particles on the back teeth (molars and premolars), preventing them from becoming trapped in these crevices, thereby avoiding unnecessary tooth decay.

Fillings are restorative measures that are taken to repair the damage created by tooth decay in an existing tooth. They are used by dentists to fill in the hole created by tooth decay. Naturally, the decay is completely removed prior to the placement of the dental filling.
Hope it answers your question.
Not really. In the sense that you do not drill and decay but you clean the grooves and fill the grooves with sealant material.
A fissure sealant is a type of filling that is preventative, rather than a traditional filling, which is placed to fill a hole that was formed by a bacterial cavity.

The good thing about sealants is that they prevent the bacteria from growing in the little "nooks and crannies" in your tooth, and therefore, lessen the likelihood of you getting a cavity in the future. Also, you don't need numbing medicine to have a sealant placed. :)
