Is hand surgery painful?

I need to have some of the skin on my hand fixed. I am nervous about the recovery for this. Is hand surgery painful?

Most soft tissue hand surgery requires little to no narcotics. Many just take Tylenol or similar non-narcotic over-the-counter medication. The pain usually lasts a day or two and subsides quickly. Of course, it’s impossible to speak about ALL hand surgery or all of those who have surgery. Everyone is different.
In general, hand surgery is usually not very painful, unless you are having surgery for a complicated fracture or major reconstructive surgery. Most "skin" procedures have mild pain afterwards which usually can be controlled with Tylenol or other over the counter pain medications. I am certain your surgeon will discuss this with you before your procedure.
It depends on the type of surgery you are having. It is usually not too painful, but discussing this with your surgeon to establish expectations is very important.
Good luck!
