Most of the time, heart failure is due to weakness of the heart muscle, which is due to heart attack or alcohol abuse or viral infection. Sometimes, the weakness of the heart muscle is hereditary, too. If the heart valves are either stenotic or leaky, heart failure can occur. Most of the time, it is progressive. If there is rupture of the tendon or papillory muscles inside the heart, this can result in sudden onset of chf. Acute heart attack can result in chf.
Heart failure usually comes on gradually. But depending on the ideology it can be sudden.
It can be. If it's due to a stiff heart also called diastolic dysfunction the heart failure can be sudden. Historically called "flash" pulmonary edema. Hearts that are weak tend to have more gradual heart failure.
Heart failure can be sudden or acute secondary to infection, heart attack, but it also can develop slowly (chronic) secondary to high blood pressure, diabetes, other immune problems, or structural heart disease, such as valvular problems. The heart is a muscle that pumps blood to the organs of the body. When the heart cannot pump properly, it is called heart failure.
Most cases it happens slowly but sometimes it can be sudden
