OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions stress

Is it possible for stress to delay my period?

I've been crazy stressed lately because of the holidays, and I just realized that this month my period was not only late, but also short (like 3-4 days when it usually lasts the whole week). Did this stress affect my period and made it irregular?

Stress is a very common cause of delay or changes in your periods. Stress can affect your hormones and cause variety of hormonal changes including your female hormones (estrogen and progesterone), which will then affect the timing of your periods. Once your stress has resolved or improved, your hormones will normalize and your periods will return to the normal pattern.
