OB-GYN (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) Questions Down Syndrome

I am 42 years old and I am expecting. Is there a chance that my baby would have down syndrome?

I am 42 years old and my husband and I are currently expecting a baby. But I read that because I'm a little older, that there might be a chance that my baby could have down syndrome. It's a miracle that we were able to conceive, so this would devastate us. Could there be any truth to this? How can we find out?

The majority of women that conceive naturally after age 40 have normal babies - Down syndrome is rare - you can do a simple blood test and you will find out whether or not you have a genetically normal baby after 11 weeks - talk to your OB about it. Have an easy and beautiful pregnancy!
There are tests available during pregnancy and your doctor will be able to tell you about your concerns.
