Urologist Questions Kidney Stones

Can recurrent kidney stones cause permanent damage to my urinary tract?

I have recurrent problems with kidney stones. I have been working with my doctor to permanently treat them, but I am worried if this can cause permanent damage to my urinary tract in any way. Should I be doing anything else?

Each time you need surgery or pass a kidney stone you can develop scar tissue from trauma. The best thing to do is follow your doctor's advice and try to prevent any further stones.
Yes, kidney stones can lead to scarring of the kidneys. Removing and preventing more kidney stones will help prevent permanent damage.
Kidney stones can cause renal damage if they block the urinary tract (like ureter or renal ducts) for a long time. That is why it is very important to have them treated and have the obstruction relieved by treating them or putting a stent to relieve the blockage until stones are treated and removed . The best way to prevent kidney stones recurrence is to increase your intake of water day and night to prevent dehydration.
It is also important to have your doctor test your urine (24 h urine collection for oxalate, citrate, calcium and uric acid )
Not necessary, but keep following your urologist.
