Really bad insomnia and hardly sleep?

I am a 24-year-old male who suffers from extreme insomnia and only sleeps 4 hours a night. What can I do to sleep better?

1 Answer

This does not have a simple answer. Insomnia is usually related to environmental and behavioral problems. Having a fixed, constant sleep and wake time, avoiding alcohol and caffeine late in the day and having a comfortable cool environment to sleep are basic interventions. An evaluation for anxiety or depression may be appropriate. Avoiding screens late at night is useful. Phones and tablets produce bright white light which tends to disrupt sleep. It would be appropriate to see a sleep specialist for an initial evaluation.
