Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (Pediatric) Questions Ear pain

How can you remove water from your ear that has been there for 2 months?

In August, my husband and I did a lot of swimming in the ocean. His ears have been hurting for about 2 months now (ever since), and he thinks it may be because water is in his ear. Is it possible to remove this water? What can be done to relieve his ear pain?

Swimming will get water in the ear canal, but that water will quickly drain out once your husband is out of the water. You can have fluid that collects behind the ear drum, which usually resolves. People with eustachian tube dysfunction will not always clear this fluid out. He should be seen by his primary care provider to evaluate his ears, and may get referred to an ENT if needed.
