Pelvic sonogram if no problems
Most obstetricians do an early sonogram during the first 3 months to verify dates and a normal, intrauterine pregnancy, then an anatomical screening sonogram between 16-24 weeks.
Assuming a perfectly normal pregnancy, you will typically require a sonogram around the 7-8th week to confirm a normal implantation and viability.
- 13-14th week for nuchal exam
- 18-20th week for anatomy check
- 28-30th week to check growth
- 37-40th week to estimate birth weight
This gives a total of 5 sonographic studies at the noted ages under completely normal conditions. Any complication could increase this number by a factor of 2,3,4 or more.
