Audiologist Questions Vertigo

Can vertigo lead to other problems?

It has been six months since I have experienced episodes of vertigo. Lately I feel I am not able to hear properly and it is kind of muffled. Is it due to my vertigo?

Vertigo with hearing loss should be immediately evaluated by an Ear, Nose & Throat physician.    Angela R. Sieh Ceretto, M.A., CCC-A, FAAA Audiologist Pinnacle Audiology, LLC 6809 S. Minnesota Ave., Suite 101 605-306-4481
Due to your history of vertigo and sudden sense of decreased and muffled hearing sensitivity, Dr. Andrea Liacouras at A 2nd Ear recommends a full hearing evaluation by an Audiologist and medical follow-up by an ear, nose and throat (ENT) physician. A sudden loss of hearing sensitivity is an issue that should be addressed as soon as possible.

It sounds like you may be experiencing aural fullness (fullness in the ear), which is a common symptom linked with vestibular (balance) disorders. Because vertigo is a symptom, not a condition, it cannot lead to other problems. However, whatever condition you have that is causing the vertigo may also be causing the muffled hearing. We recommend that you visit a vestibular specialist to receive a proper diagnosis, as this will inform you of why your hearing is muffled and why you experience vertigo.
It's hard to say without a hearing test and a comprehensive exam. I would see an ENT physician for a hearing test, etc.
