“What are the disadvantages of birth control pills?”

At your age, there are essentially no disadvantages to birth control pills. They are highly effective at preventing pregnancy. In addition they have been shown to lower lifetime risks of ovarian and uterine cancers. In a small number of women with a genetic tendency to form blood clots, the pills can increase the risk of problems like pulmonary embolism. The number of women is so small, that we do not recommend routine screening for this condition.

Pill needs to suit you. Each brand has slightly different composition. Not all oral contraceptive is suitable for everybody. Need to talk to your gynecologist.
