I am nervous about my son getting the flu vaccine. What are the negatives of the flu shot?

The shot is a dead virus and you cannot get flu from the shot. If you wait until flu season is here he may not have time to make his immunity to the flu before he is exposed to the illness thus making it less effective. There can be pain and swelling at the injection site. There is a very rare complication of allergic reaction. The vaccine may not perfectly match the type of flu that occurs and he may not get full protection. However it it better to get the flu shot with limited protection than no protection.
