What can I do about the labral tear in my hip?

An MRI found a labral tear in my hip, and the pain in my hip is becoming unbearable. What can I do about the labral tear in my hip? What are some treatment options?

If it is truly a labral tear and not associated with severe arthritis you may be a candidate for hip arthroscopy to repair or remove the tear.
Most labral tears are not symptomatic. Treatment of labral tears depends on age, weight, activity level and presence of arthritis. Most hip labrum tears do not need surgery. Treatments involve physical therapy, deep tissue massage, increasing hip range of motion, anti-inflammatory meds and occasionally injections of NSAIDS, steroids or stem cells.
If you have hip pain with weight bearing or motion, it may be due to the labral tear. I recommend a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon who does hip arthroscopic. Surgery is always the last resort, but guidance and recommendations are valuable. Several variables are important to evaluate including your age, activity goals and location of the tear/healing potential.
Good luck!
