What can my son do to prevent running injuries?

My son loves to run and has joined his track and field team at his school, but I want him to be really careful with running. What can he do to prevent injuries?

Stretching and strengthening of the appropriate muscles. Good technique, good equipment.
He should start running slowly, doing short distances, and then gradually increasing his mileage. He can minimize the chance of developing a stress fracture. Also, he should stretch before and after running. Hope this helps.
Be sure he is getting a balanced nutritious diet. Make sure he does some stretching of the legs, knees, and calves before and after running. Make sure he stays hydrated during workouts. Make sure he gets adequate rest and sleep.
