Ear-Nose and Throat Doctor (ENT) Questions Sore Throat

What could be the cause of sore throat and tongue?

I am having flu like symptoms from the last 24 hours. While i feel tired and feverish, i have all of a sudden developed soreness around the throat and the tongue. Could it be a normal flu or an infection of the throat? I am worried because it also feels like rashes around the throat and the tongue now.

There are many causes for a sore throat: if you have a flu-like syndrome, it could be part of it, however, a bacterial infection could occur on top of your flu and could end in a tonsillar abscess. Also, a malignant tumor of the tonsil could be present and became exacerbated by the flu symptoms. Your best bet is to see your physician and have him look at your throat and have a culture done to rule out any possible bacterial or viral infection and order appropriated treatment.
It would be very difficult to make any diagnosis without directly examining these sites and issues. There are many causes of rashes or soreness around the tongue and throat even with a viral illness. I would suggest seeing a nearby ENT or Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist. Thank you.
