What causes acid reflux all of a sudden?

I am a 37 year old male who recently started having acid reflux. What could be the cause?

Over time, the muscle or sphincter at the bottom of the esophagus can get weak, making reflux happen. A hiatal hernia might develop too, also resulting in more reflux. Weight gain often precedes development of heartburn.
Many reasons: significant weight gain is a very common cause. Foods or substances that irritate the stomach mucosa such as spicy foods or alcohol is another cause. You need to consult with your doctor.
You may have had mild symptoms in the past which you may’ve ignored, and now something may have made it worse. Your Gastroenterologist will be able to help you.
