Pediatrician Questions Gait Abnormalities

What is a gait disorder?

My son just turned 3 and has a lot of trouble walking and moves around slowly, holding onto things to support him. The pediatrician says she wants to evaluate him for a gait disorder. What exactly is this?

A gait disorder just means abnormalities of gait, which is walking. This can be due to neurologic or muscle problems. Some vitamins deficiencies can affect gait. Being premature can make muscles not relax. At his age, further workup is needed.
