Hematologist (Blood Specialist) Questions Lupus anticoagulant

What's the clotting-role of basopenia and elevated neutrophils?

I have antiphospholipid syndrome (lupus anticoagulant) with multiple clotting events. In my research I stumbled across something interesting- that basopenia is associated with hypersensitivity reactions like chronic urticaria (me), and also clotting issues (also me) since basophils contain heparin. I looked back and noted that in every single CBC I have had in the last 7 years (at least 10), none of them had any basophils. I know it's harder to detect them in general due to low numbers though... I was also reading a study about the role neutrophils play- "neutrophils release sticky, spider web-like structures called neutrophil extracellular traps, also called NETs, that trigger the blood to clot in patients with APS.” Both times I had clotting events, my neutrophils were elevated. Not sure if any of this is significant but curious if there are any recommendations or thoughts you could share with me.

This is a very interesting question. I am sorry that you have and must deal with your APS and it consequences. Neutrophils are not generally associated with clotting. Basophils do have small amounts of heparin in them which would decrease clotting. There is not enough known about basopenia to say that a it is causing any increase in clotting.
I would talk about it with a hematologist.
