Oncologist Questions Chemotherapy

Why is my mother so irritable after her chemotherapy sessions?

After receiving her chemotherapy, my mother is highly irritated and also feels very tired. Is it normal fatigue due to the treatment or something else? I feel so bad seeing her like this. Is there anything she can do before or during chemo to prevent this from happening?

Hello. It is possible that your mother is having side effects from the anti nausea medications. It is possible for the doctor to adjust the medications to decrease the effects of these drugs. I suggest mentioning this to the doctor the next time she is seen and the chemotherapy is ordered. Otherwise it might be possible for the doctor to prescribe a drug to counteract these symptoms.
Very common reaction to chemotherapy. Make sure she does some kind of exercise even if it's just walking for 30-45 mins per day. If that's not possible then any kind of stretching of the body will help, even if sitting in a chair. Stay away from processed food, sugar, white bread and too many sweets as well as alcohol. Kombucha which is a fermented tea drink is great for energy as is watermelon and beets. Good luck.
Sorry to hear this. It is common to experience irritability after chemotherapy. This can be from depression which is commonly seen after the completion of treatment. This does get better in time but may need antidepressants if severe
It's very common due to chemotherapy making you very tired and altering some of her hormones as well. Just try to be supportive during this hard time for her.
