Cardiothoracic Surgeon Questions Lung Cancer

Will it take my dad to recover a long time from a sleeve resection?

My father is going to get a sleeve resection next week, because his lung cancer is in its early stages. Does this surgery have a long recovery time with it? How can I help him recover from it?

The recovery time from any lung surgery is typically between 4-6 weeks.
Not necessarily
Sleeve resection is a bit more complicated than a lobectomy of the lung, but the recovery time is the same. The risk of complications is a bit more but overall most patients do extremely well.
Depends. If they are opening his chest it will takE about a week. If they do it through a scope it will probably be less. Four things you need to do: he has to cough and deep breathe a lot, make sure he is up and about a lot. Good pain control. Good nutrition. Emotional support as patients get a little depressed after a big operation of any kind. Oops that was five things. I wish him well
Depends. If they do it minimally invasive, he should recover fast, if they do it open and use an epidural blocker, he should recover well, if neither is used, he should recover ok with pain medication
It all depends on the approach. Minimally invasive - VATS or RATS - 3 to 4 weeks. Open (thoracotomy), 6 to 8 weeks.
Good luck!
