How to Treat Chikungunya

  • Carry out low-weight aerobic exercises: This is known to be one of the best methods for treating those chronic joint pain caused due to chikungunya. Try performing certain low-impact oxygen consuming activities which would keep your body engaged and not cause any other damage to it.
  • Massaging: This is another effective treatment approach for reducing the pain arising in the joints which are a common issue in chikungunya. For this you can lightly warm up around two tablespoons of castor oil along with a pinch of cinnamon powder and then mix it well and massage it on the affected joints region for a few minutes. Carry out this massage for two to three times in a day. The anti-inflammatory properties contained in castor oil would help in providing relief from pain in the joint as well as inflammation caused due to this virus. Cinnamon is also known to contain anti-inflammatory properties which aids in reducing the pain in the joint.
  • Try cool compress: With the help of cold compress, it would help to reduce the inflammation, pain in the joints as well as the swelling. Crush some of the ice and gently wrap it on a clean washcloth before you start pressing it to the affected joint region.
