An experienced pathologist, Dr. Baalwa is the Medical Director for Clinical Pathology at the Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital in Houston, Texas. He also serves as an Assistant Professor within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the UTHealth McGovern Medical School.
The Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital, owned and operated by the Harris County Hospital District, is the second primary teaching facility for McGovern Medical School at Houston. This 332-bed hospital opened in 1989 and is a full-service general hospital with easy access for the indigent patients it serves.
Back in the early days of his academic career, Dr. Baalwa graduated with his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree from the Makerere University Medical School in Uganda in 1999, and served as a Senior House Officer at the same educational venue. After relocating to the United States, he received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Molecular and Cellular Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 2012.
Later, he completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology and his fellowship in surgical pathology at the Baylor College of Medicine in 2017 and 2018, respectively. He completed an additional fellowship in hematopathology at the Washington University in St. Louis in 2019.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in anatomic & clinical pathology, and hematopathology through the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The mission of the ABPath is to promote the health of the public and advance the practice and science of pathology by establishing voluntary certification standards and assessing the qualifications of those seeking to practice the specialty of pathology.
