  • Treating chronic muscle pain?

    Hi there. I just read your question, and I'm so sorry to hear that your husband is in so much discomfort. My answer for your question is yes, and no. I believe that acupuncture may help reduce his pain to some degree, but I don't think it will resolve it completely. Any relief he gets may also be, only, temporary. Because of the surgeries, the structure of his body has changed and may contribute, to various degrees, to his recurring pain. What I tell my patients is that I liken these sort of conditions to a house on fire. The acupuncture will turn off the alarm telling you that there's a fire, but the house will continue to burn and set it off again. Acupuncture may relieve his pain to some degree, but if the source of the pain is a structural one, that pain will keep coming back. I'm sorry, I wish I had a more optimistic opinion for you, but this is how I see it realistically. Now, this is only MY opinion. There may be some other acupuncturists who have had great results using a protocol that I'm not familiar with. So I recommend that you continue to ask around.
