Get to know Pulmonologist Dr. Ashraf Elsayegh, who serves patients in Los Angeles, California.

A board-certified pulmonologist, Dr. Elsayegh is in practice at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. His clinical and research interests center around neuromuscular disorders, specifically amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as diaphragm dysfunction/disorders. He is currently participating in research related to multiple areas of ALS, and is involved in several studies related to diaphragm dysfunction with a special interest in the Diaphragm Pacing System.

Cedars-Sinai Medical Center is one of the largest nonprofit academic medical centers in the United States, with 886 licensed beds, 2,100 physicians, 2,800 nurses and thousands of other healthcare professionals and staff.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Elsayegh received his undergraduate degree from UCLA in 1994, and graduated with his medical degree from the Ross University School of Medicine in 1998. He then went on to complete his residency in internal medicine at the SUNY Downstate Health Science Center in 2002, and his fellowship in pulmonary disease at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in 2005.

An expert in his field, the doctor is board-certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Pulmonology is a medical specialty that deals with diseases involving the respiratory tract. A pulmonologist is an internal medicine physician who specializes in preventing, diagnosing, and treating conditions and diseases that affect the lungs, bronchial tubes, and the respiratory system, including the nose, pharynx, and throat.
