With a broad educational background, Dr. Zayas-Torres earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Puerto Rico, graduating magna cum laude. He graduated with his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine, where he also completed his residency in internal medicine, and fellowship in cardiovascular disease.
Following his training, the doctor attained board certification in cardiovascular disease and internal medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Prior to joining the Orlando Health Heart & Vascular Institute, he served as medical director of the cardiology section at the Doctor’s Center Hospital in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was also the Founder and Medical Director of the chest pain unit at Ashford Presbyterian Community Hospital in San Juan.
In addition to being published in several peer-reviewed journals and presenting at national conferences, Dr. Zayas-Torres is an experienced clinical investigator and has participated in six significant studies.
