A highly trained dermatologist, Dr. Began is affiliated with The Dermatology Specialists, which is the largest full-service dermatology practice with 20+ locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and Long Island.
Providing her patients with a tailored comprehensive approach to skin care, she has a special interest in acne, acne injections, cosmetic dermatology and cosmetic procedures, eczema, hair loss, psoriasis, rosacea, and skin cancer screenings, prevention and treatments.
Accepted into several medical schools during her senior year of high school, Dr. Began chose the accelerated BS/MD program, graduating cum laude with her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and her medical degree from Albany Medical College. Her physics background from a top engineering school (she ranked number one in her freshman class) has served as a solid foundation for understanding the technology of lasers.
Subsequently, she completed her residency in internal medicine at Albany Medical College and Montefiore Medical Center, and her dermatology training at the Indiana University School of Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident.
With an unwavering commitment to her specialty, the doctor is board-certified in dermatology by the American Board of Dermatology, which is a voluntary, non-profit, private, autonomous organization formed for the primary purpose of protecting the public interest by establishing and maintaining high standards of training, education, and qualifications of physicians rendering care in dermatology.
Moreover, she is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.
Among her prior academic appointments, Dr. Began has served as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the NYU School of Medicine, Weill Cornell Medicine, the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and St. Vincent’s Medical Center. She also was a member of the Executive Board of the New York University Medical Center.
Dermatology is the branch of medicine dealing with the skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body. Dermatology is a specialty with both medical and surgical aspects. A dermatologist is a specialist doctor who manages skin diseases and deals with both internal and external causes and some cosmetic concerns involving the skin. Dermatological duties include taking consultations, providing screening tests, and undertaking non-invasive surgical procedures.
Recognized as a Regional Top Doctor by Castle Connolly Magazine, Dr. Began was the recipient of the Irwin Lubowe Fellowship for outstanding academic scholarship and the NYU Full Time Dermatology Faculty of the Year Award in 2001. In 2014, she was awarded with the Special Recognition Award from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine Unified Division of Dermatology for outstanding mentorship of dermatology residents, medical students and colleagues. She also wrote the Dean’s letters for graduating students interested in dermatology.
On a more personal note, she enjoys sailing, writing and spending time with family, friends and her cocker spaniel, an AIHA survivor.
