From a young age, Dr. Salcedo knew he wanted to be a doctor. Growing up in his native Nicaragua, he was an active volunteer for the Red Cross by age 14. Earning his medical degree from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the National Autonomous University of Honduras in 1992, he relocated to the United States to further his training. Once there, he completed his residency in family medicine at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 2004.
A member of the American Academy of Family Physicians, he is board-certified in family medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM). The ABFM is a non-profit, independent medical association of American physicians who practice in family medicine and its sub-specialties.
