A board-certified clinical and anatomical pathologist, Dr. Khan is Laboratory Director and Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Advocate Trinity Hospital, a role she embraced in 2007. Furthermore, she serves as Transfusion Medicine Consultant for Midwest Diagnostic Pathology, an affiliate of Advocate Health Care. 

Born and raised in Pakistan, Dr. Khan attended Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) in Karachi, Pakistan, and graduated with her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree in 1977. After relocating to the United States, she completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as advanced training in blood banking and transfusion medicine through Cook County Hospital. 

Dr. Khan pursued her board-certification in clinical and anatomical pathology with the American Board of Pathology (ABPath). The American Board of Pathology (ABPath) is one of 24 member boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. She also holds an additional board-certification in blood banking and transfusion medicine acquired through the American Board of Pathology.

Pathology is the study of the causes and effects of disease or injury. The word pathology also refers to the study of disease in general, incorporating a wide range of biology research fields and medical practices. 

A Pathology Instructor for medical students at Midwestern University, Dr. Khan attained the coveted title of  Fellow of the College of American Pathologists. She is als an assessor for the American Association of Blood Banks and the College of American Pathologists. Prior to her current endeavors, she served as Medical Director of the Blood Bank and General Pathologist at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center (1991 – 2007).
