Dr. Happel graduated Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 2003 at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. She received her Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine in 2008 from the New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine (NYITCOM) in Old Westbury, NY. Dr. Happel successfully completed her traditional rotating internship and family medicine residency at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, NY. She was privileged to provide outpatient medical care in the Martin Luther King Jr. Health Center in Wyandanch, NY during her tenure at Good Samaritan. Dr. Happel was appointed Chief Resident of the Family Medicine Department for 2010-2011 and was awarded the Paul S. Mandala “Resident of the Year” Special Achievement upon residency graduation in 2011.
Upon graduation from residency, she worked in private practice for “Heart and Health” with a well-respected cardiologist in Suffolk County, NY. She was integral in developing and implementing an affiliation with Mount Sinai of Queens, to provide her patients with access to diabetic educators and certified nutritionists in her office.
Dr. Happel is Board Certified in Family Practice and Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians. She passed an additional board certification and is now a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. Happel is certified as a Skilled Item-Writer for the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME) and serves nationally on the American College of Family Physicians (ACOFP) Committee on Public Health and Wellness and the Committee on Osteopathic Principles and Practices. She also serves as a Peer Reviewer for the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association (JAOA).
She is dedicated to the education of her students and her patients. She is particularly passionate and invested in the fight against obesity and obesity related illnesses.
