Back in 1986, he graduated with his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, before completing his residency in general surgery at the Oregon Health & Science University in 1992. He then went on to complete his fellowship in transplant surgery at the Mayo Clinic in 1994.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), the doctor is board-certified in general surgery and transplant surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
