Before embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Vertrees obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics from Texas A&M University, and graduated with her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2006. She then went on to complete her residency in neurology at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in 2010, before completing consecutive fellowships in neuromuscular medicine and medical ethics at Weill Cornell Medical Center in 2012.
A Fellow of the American Headache Society (FAHS), the doctor is board-certified in neurology and neuromuscular medicine by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). The ABPN is a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to serving the professions of psychiatry and neurology.
Moreover, she is board-certified in headache medicine by the United Council of Neurological Specialties, and is an active member of the Ethics Committee to the American Headache Society, and the Southern Headache Society.
